Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill is one of Ireland’s most celebrated traditional singers, renowned for her distinctive sean-nós style and her deep connection to the song traditions of the Donegal Gaeltacht. Raised in a musical family with strong roots in Rann na Feirste, Co. Donegal, she was influenced from an early age by both traditional Irish song and a wide range of contemporary music.
She first came to prominence as a member of the influential group Skara Brae alongside her siblings Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill and Micheál Ó Domhnaill and Dáithí Sproule. Since then, she has enjoyed a distinguished solo career and collaborated with many of the leading figures in Irish traditional music, including Dónal Lunny, Martin Hayes, and Iarla Ó Lionáird. Her acclaimed recordings, including Gan Dhá Phingin Spré and Idir an Dá Sholas, are regarded as landmarks in Irish traditional song.
In later years, she performed with the Donegal supergroup T with the Maggies alongside her sister Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, and Moya Brennan, celebrating the rich musical heritage of Donegal. She continues to perform with Tríona as a duet, bringing the songs of her tradition to audiences in Ireland and internationally.
