The Friel Sisters

The Friel Sisters
BIOGRAPHY
Anna, Sheila, and Clare Friel, Glasgow-born traditional musicians with deep roots in Ireland’s Donegal Gaeltacht, create a harmonious blend on fiddle, flute, and uilleann pipes, accompanied by heartfelt unison songs. Frequent trips to Ireland for workshops have fueled their musical growth, with many now seeking their guidance as tutors.

Their debut album launched a journey performing across continents at prominent venues and festivals. Sharing stages and collaborating with luminaries like Altan, The Chieftains, and Lúnasa, they’ve left a mark. Notably, they won the Trophée Loïc Raison at Festival Interceltique de Lorient in 2016 and released their acclaimed album ‘Before the Sun’ in 2018.

Clare’s exceptional talent was acknowledged in 2018 when she received the prestigious TG4 Gradam Ceoil Young Musician of the Year award. Celebrated on TG4 in the presence of President Michael D. Higgins, her solo and ensemble performances garnered praise, and she was hailed as a rising star by TG4. Today, joined by Marty Barry and Cathal Ó Curráin, they continue to tour extensively, with a vibrant summer planned for 2023.
