Our Values

Our Guiding Principles
Equity, diversity and inclusion are fundamental guiding principles of TradFest. The festival became one of the first cultural organisations in Ireland to solidify this commitment through the appointment of a dedicated full-time EDI officer and researcher.
TradFest 2025 was both the largest and most diverse programme presented in the festival’s history to date, with significant strides made in amplifying the voices of people who have been marginalised.
TradFest actively pursues partnerships with artists, creatives, and advocates to continually change and enhance TradFest, as well as the music industry more broadly.

EDI
Our EDI policy is based on the vision of being an inclusive space, where everyone is encouraged to be themselves knowing that they will be accepted and treated fairly with dignity and respect.
A central vision of TradFest is to deepen these key partnerships to ensure marginalised communities are not just represented but empowered.
Excellence
in everything we do from programming the artists to marketing the festival year on year.
Inclusivity
for all and the provision of quality cultural content for everyone from all backgrounds, races, orientation, and abilities.
Fairness
because all artists, and creative professionals must be rewarded fairly and equitably, and that all audiences must have access to arts and culture.
Collaboration
because there is no monopoly on creativity. We actively pursue partnerships with artists, creatives, and advocates to continually change and improve TradFest and the industry more broadly.
Celebration
of both traditional and contemporary Irish culture, creating connections that bridge our past, present, and future. We are dedicated to representing all voices that contribute to our vibrant cultural ecosystem.
Gender Diversity
The chart below shows the number of paid male, female, and gender diverse artists* who have performed at TradFest over the years. This data is derived from archived festival programs and media from 2006-2024 by Emma Grove, TradFest EDI Researcher and Advisor, and has been corroborated by Dr. Aileen Dillane and Dr. Sarah Raine of the FestiVersities project.
*Volunteer performers (Church choirs, student orchestras, etc.) are not included.

TradFest & Ablefest
AbleFest is Ireland’s largest inclusive musical festival, as well as a movement that embraces diversity and celebrates difference. TradFest & AbleFest work together to ensure our festivals are accessible and inclusive spaces for all.
