Your TradFest visit

Your Visit
Dublin is widely regarded as a bustling cultural hub, known for its vibrant atmosphere, charming streets, historic architecture and live music. The city and county combined boast a population of over 1.5 million people, with each neighbourhood and suburb offering a unique blend of history and modernity.
Whether you’re a first time visitor, or if you’re returning for another stay in the capital, fáilte go hÉirinn agus go Baile Átha Cliath! (Welcome to Ireland and to Dublin!) Compared to other major European cities, Dublin is relatively small, so it’s an easy place to explore on foot, by car, or via the public transport network.
Getting to TradFest Events
TradFest is split across three separate regions – Dublin City Centre, South Dublin and Fingal, which is North County Dublin. There’s a variety of travel options right across the county, and below you’ll find all the information you’ll need on how to get around Dublin with our TradFest Travel Tips.
If you’re in need of assistance when you’re here, be sure to visit one of Fáilte Ireland’s tourist information centres for advice, maps and literature on our beautiful capital city and county.
Getting Around Dublin
Here’s a few TradFest Travel Tips:
Dublin Bus
With 120 routes, Dublin Bus is by far the largest bus operator in the city, and with a number of those routes operating 24/7, the bus is a handy way to get home at whatever time you’re ready to make a move.
Dublin Bikes
Dublin Bikes is a public bicycle rental scheme which has operated in the city since 2009. The bikes are available all day, every day, with the first half-hour of every journey free of charge. Users need to take out a subscription, which allows them an unlimited number of rentals.
Luas
The Luas is Dublin’s tram system, and has two lines which intersect in the city centre. The Red Line runs from Tallaght to The Point, The Green Line runs from Brides Glen to Broombridge, with ticket machines located on every platform.
Irish Rail
Irish Rail serves the entire country, with the majority of trains leaving from Connolly Station and Heuston Station. Head over to the Irish Rail website for the latest information on arrivals and departures, and to get your hands on train tickets.
Journey Planner
The Transport For Ireland Journey Planner is an app which offers real-time departure information and travel alerts. You can look up a location or stop ID for your origin and destination, change the time of travel or even the mode of transport.
Leap Card
A Leap Card is a convenient prepaid card which is valid on most Transport For Ireland services, offering fares which can cost up to 30% less than cash tickets. They can be bought online or in over 2,000 newsagents nationwide, and all you’ve to do is tap when getting on and off.
DART
The DART runs along the coast of the Irish Sea, offering stunning views while you travel. It goes as far north as Malahide and Howth, and as far south as Greystones. There are three DART stations in the city centre: Connolly Station, Tara Street Station and Pearse Street Station.
Dublin Airport
Dublin Airport is just over 13 kilometres north of the city centre, with a handful of options to get you into the heart of the capital. Visitors can hop on the Dublin Express, Aircoach, Dublin Bus or Go-Ahead Ireland services.
Festival Venues
From castles to cathedrals, churches to community centres, TradFest events can be found in some of the most beautiful settings Dublin has to offer. Both the city and county boast buildings of architectural beauty, and filling these special spaces with live music makes for a memorable experience.
Dublin City Venues
With buildings dating back to Norman times, as well as modern-day music venues, the variety of TradFest venues in Dublin City Centre is remarkable.
You may find yourself in the historic halls of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, or The National Stadium – the only purpose built amateur boxing arena in the world – with all city centre venues within walking distance of one another.
